So many decisions go into making your chocolate. There's this whole world in just a handful of cacao nibs. So much nuance to explore. And you get more out of it the deeper you go. We get the obsession. How to transform this strange-looking and basically inedible cocoa fruit - the food of the gods, we are always reminded - into a piece of art? No pressure.
It is impossible to ignore the dark side of our industry.
We want the chocolate we eat to be delicious, of course, but we also want it to make a farmer's life better, not worse. And the status quo is making the average farmer's life worse. It's driving deforestation. It puts humans in impossible situations. We know it and you know it.
We met with a lot of cooperatives before we made our decision about who to work with.
The quality and consistency are good, yes. There are scientists running the show. Cadmium won't be a concern. But a big reason we chose to start with this particular cooperative is not only that they see the same potential we see in their members, but also in what the beans they produce can do. Together we are building peace by chocolate.
We aren't really here to sell you beans. We want you to help us change the game.
It can only add even more value to your products if you produce them out of cocoa beans with a story. By making it easy for your buyers to understand who is being the premium quality product they are consuming gives them the opportunity to better understand the social and sustainable impacts of their consumption.
