The Colombian conflict lasted over 50 years, killing over 220,000 people and internally displacing millions or forcing them to produce cocaine on their own land.
Today, there are over 65,000 cacao producers in Colombia, and 73% of them live below the poverty line. These farmers are at risk, they face the awful dilemma of either continuing to produce legal crops like cacao in poverty, or (re)turning to activities such as cocaine production in order to survive.
The Choco4Peace movement connects cacao farmers with all the services and resources they need so they can lift themselves out of poverty, build peace in their communities, and most importantly, build lives with dignity. We connect them to international markets and ensure they get paid a living income.
