This movement is not about chocolate, but about what it can do.
We use chocolate as a messenger to show that farmers can lift themselves out of poverty, build peace in their communities, but most importantly, to build lives with dignity.
In the world we live in,
we depend on long food chains where the story and identity of our food disappears into the endless stream of commodities so that often the only information communicated between consumers and producers is a price – and equity, fairness, and health are neglected. Farmers are erased from the story.
In the world we want to live in,
consumption will benefit the planet and its people. Our health will not be divorced from the health of the entire food web, from the farmers. In this world, technology and finance will be tools for developing a future full of abundant, equitable, and resilient communities.
In the world we are building,
we will work together to create public goods. Farmers will have fair prices and lives with dignity. Consumers will have healthy and fair-trade chocolate. And investors will have their return in financial, ethical and social environmental terms. The world will be a better place.
Changing life stories:
The power of interconnected efforts
One of the biggest existential threats we face as a species lies at the nexus between poverty, conflict, and environmental destruction. We can see so much more clearly now how connected everything is. The conversation around sustainable development is one that everybody needs to participate in.
Whether you are a chocolate lover, a chocolatier, an investor, a public servant, a corporate leader, an academic, or a citizen, you have a role to play.
It’s time for all hands on deck.
Executing this vision means building consensus, breaking down silos, and swimming through the mud together. We need your heads, your hearts, and your hands to make it, together - for sure you can see yourselves in one or more of the following:
